THE START OF A VISIONARY LEGACY
In 1978, a group of young entrepreneurs with the vision of creating a new business in the Brazilian market, founded Silimed in Rio de Janeiro. The goal of providing health and well-being was part of the founding ethos.
Operations began in Brazil initially by importing breast implants from France. Then, in 1981, Silimed began to manufacture their own implants and, by the following year, started exporting to Argentina. The first 10 years were characterised by significant challenges for a Brazilian industry that, working alongside the medical profession, began to grow in strength in its own country and in Latin America more broadly.
PIONEERS IN SAFETY AND ITS OWN POLYURETHANE TECHNOLOGY
In 1989, it developed its own innovative technology for producing breast implants coated with vulcanised polyurethane foam, becoming pioneers and a benchmark in breast implants in the field of plastic surgery. That same year, it expanded its market share and started exporting its products to Europe.
It was the first company in the world to identify its products with a unique serial number, ensuring control, traceability and safety, thereby becoming a standard in credibility for plastic surgeons, patients and certification bodies.
PATIENT-FOCUSSED GROWTH AND INNOVATION
After two decades of constant growth, Silimed had become established as a leading company in the Brazilian market and one of the main actors on the global stage.
To meet the increasing demand, Silimed invested in a new state-of-the-art factory in 2003, expanding its’ production capacity and investing in new technological resources.
In this decade, it invested in two significant product innovations. In 2006, it re-launched the breast implant with a conical design, an exclusive Silimed model in Europe even today. In 2008, it launched a line of breast implants with an exclusive design concept adapted to the different female biotypes, the BioDesign Line, a full range with five formats and for every base size up to four projections.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND NEW CHALLENGES
In this decade, the group of young people who began this great company restructured the Silimed leadership and, without losing their essence or brand value, chose a member of the family, Gabriel Robert, to lead the company as CEO. A new, more dynamic, future-oriented management model was put in place. This group is now part of the managing board.
With 40 years of business behind it, a new cycle of challenges has begun, with the opening of international branches, the building of a new factory and the search for technological innovations.
NEW SILIMED FACTORY AND CE CERTIFICATION
Silimed obtained CE certification for its breast implants, reaffirming its commitment to the highest quality standards.
Coinciding with this achievement, a new factory was opened, a key step in the expansion of its production capacity.
With renewed impetus, the company returned to the European market and established its global presence with the opening of new international branches in Italy, Korea and Peru.
